A discreet shrub of the arid zones of Africa, Balanites pedicellaris belongs to a family of plants long known in the traditional pharmacopeia of the Sahel and the Horn of Africa. Its root, more than its other parts, has drawn the attention of local herbalists for its uses related to the body's resistance to infections. A plant that has remained outside the major trade circuits, but faithful to knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
Scientific data on the toxicity and safety of this species remain very limited; caution is advised.
