Tradition
Traditional ethnobotany

Native to the humid undergrowth of Peru, Fittonia albivenis, nicknamed the “nerve plant” for its finely veined leaves, is known above all as an indoor ornamental plant. Amazonian peoples lived alongside it in their forest environment, but its documented traditional use in herbal medicine remains extremely limited, unlike other plants of the tropical undergrowth.
