Traditional ethnobotany

Gloriosa, with its flamboyant flowers resembling curved flames, is a climbing vine native to the savannas and forest margins of Africa. In the folk traditions of several regions of the continent, its leaves have sometimes found an external use, although the plant is above all known and feared for its toxicity. It belongs to those plants that the old herbalists handled with the utmost caution.
