A modest plant growing in the shade of old walls and damp stones across Asia, Lindenbergia muraria belongs to those discreet herbs that local folk traditions have nonetheless noticed. Its very name, muraria, recalls its preferred habitat on mineral surfaces and old buildings. Little studied outside its regional traditional use, it remains a plant of oral knowledge more than of scholarly literature.
Scientific data on the composition and toxicity of this plant remain very limited: caution is advised. Avoid any use in pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as young children, in the absence of sufficient safety data. Do not exceed occasional use and seek the advice of a health professional or experienced herbalist before any use. Avoid self-harvesting in polluted urban areas, as the plant readily grows on walls and rubble.
