A small, discreet terrestrial orchid of the rice paddies and grassy areas of Asia, Zeuxine strateumatica long escaped the attention of Western herbalists, reserved for very localized folk uses in South and Southeast Asia. Its traditional use remains fragmentary, passed down mainly by word of mouth in certain rural communities.
Scientific and traditional data on this orchid are very limited; caution is advised before any internal use. As this plant is a wild orchid, its gathering may be regulated or discouraged for conservation reasons; it is advisable to check the local status of the species. Do not use in pregnant or breastfeeding women, or in children, in the absence of sufficient safety data. The advice of a health professional or qualified herbalist is strongly recommended before any use, internal or external.
