Euphorbia peplus

Euphorbia peplus
Read before use: the information below describes traditional and informational uses — it does not replace the advice of a healthcare professional. In case of doubt, pregnancy, breastfeeding, ongoing treatment or use in children, seek advice before use.
Enhanced precautions for this plant: The latex is vesicant and irritating: it must never be ingested, nor brought near the eyes, mucous membranes or open wounds. Plant toxic by internal route: contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women, children and in case of any uncertainty. Topical use must remain strictly local and occasional, under supervision, and be discontinued in case of redness, burning or excessive reaction. Keep out of reach of children and pets; wash hands thoroughly after any handling.
Local Application — Latex (milky sap from cut stem)

Direct application of fresh latex

A fresh stem is cut and a drop of latex is immediately deposited on the affected skin area, avoiding any contact with the surrounding healthy skin. This traditional practice, very occasional, should only be considered after advice from a healthcare professional, given the caustic nature of the sap. Dosage must be validated with a healthcare professional or recognized pharmacopoeia before use.

Where to find it

Obtaining the plant

It is encountered spontaneously in gardens, vegetable gardens and cultivated land in Europe; it is not cultivated nor sold in herbalist shops due to its toxicity.

Harvest season

When to harvest it

The plant is harvested fresh from spring to autumn, when it is in full vegetative growth, handling the latex with gloves.
