ground ivy

Glechoma hederacea
Read before use: the information below describes traditional and informational uses — it does not replace the advice of a healthcare professional. In case of doubt, pregnancy, breastfeeding, ongoing treatment, or use in children, seek advice before use.
Do not confuse with common ivy (Hedera helix), a climbing plant with toxic berries and no botanical relationship despite the similar name. Avoid prolonged use or high doses without advice from a healthcare professional, as a precaution. Consult a doctor or midwife before any use in pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as in young children. If taking medication, consult a healthcare professional before any regular use.
Where to find it

Sourcing the plant

Ground ivy grows wild throughout Europe, carpeting open woodlands, hedgerows and fresh meadows; it can also be found dried in herbalist shops, often under its Latin name Glechoma hederacea.

Harvest season

When to harvest

Harvesting is traditionally done in spring and early summer, when the leaves and small violet flowers are fully developed.
