Tradition
Traditional ethnobotany

Native to the mountains of the Cape, in South Africa, Cyclopia intermedia is one of the species behind honeybush, the amber-colored, honey-scented tea that local communities have long harvested and dried. Long confined to rural households of the Cederberg and surrounding regions, this shrub of the pea family has gradually reached tables around the world as a comforting everyday drink.

What to know before use

Although widely consumed as an everyday drink, it is advisable to seek the advice of a health professional in cases of pregnancy, breastfeeding, or ongoing medication. Favor moderate, regular consumption rather than excessive intake, as with any daily infusion. Check the origin and quality of the product, as honeybush is sometimes blended with other plants when sold commercially.
