Enhanced precautions for this plant: No reliable traditional internal or external use is documented for Aztekium; any ingestion or improvised preparation is not recommended in the absence of safety data. The genus Aztekium is classified among rare and threatened cacti, protected by the CITES convention: wild harvesting is prohibited and cultivation must come from legal horticultural sources. Where to find it

Obtaining the plant

Aztekium grows in the wild only in a few limestone valleys in Nuevo León, Mexico, where it is protected; today it is mainly found among collectors and specialized nurseries for rare cacti, legally cultivated from seeds.

Harvesting season

When to harvest it

A protected species with very slow growth, Aztekium is not harvested in the wild; in cultivation, a few seeds can be collected from mature plants in late summer if flowering has occurred.
